Dr. MacInnes has been a veterinarian for over 30 years and an emergency veterinarian for over 25 years. She has been an animal lover since she was a child and regularly took in strays and doctored animals that needed care. Her love of animals naturally led her to study at the University of California at Davis where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology and continued her education at the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine for her veterinary training. After graduating from veterinary school in 1990, Dr. MacInnes worked in a general practice in Half Moon Bay and in 1998 opened her own animal mobile practice there, where she works on companion animals, farm animals, and horses serving the coastal community in that area.
Dr. MacInnes thrives on the challenge of emergency medicine and started working as an emergency veterinarian in 1996. She is dedicated to ensuring that all her patients receive the best care possible and often performs surgery for many patients during her emergency shifts at NPVEC.
Dr. MacInnes is the quintessential mixed animal veterinarian, equally comfortable treating cats and dogs, as well as rabbits, birds, livestock (goats and cattle), and horses in an area of coastal California where there is limited veterinary care.
As an avid animal lover, Dr. MacInnes enjoys observing wildlife in their natural habitats and travels to exotic destinations to view endangered species. In addition to managing and working as a mobile practitioner and as one of our emergency veterinarians, Dr. MacInnes enjoys plein-aire painting (painting outdoors) at her home in Half Moon Bay that she shares with a menagerie of pets dogs, cats, horses, chickens, and a box turtle.
